Question six

One popular use of blogs is to discuss 'hot' topics. The topics can come from the news or from your social group. This can be used in classrooms as a way for everyone to express their opinion about something in a clear and fair way. For some students, it's difficult to say what they mean in public but they feel safe writing in a blog comment. For this blog post, I'll ask what you think about a news story.

The Korea Times reports Spending on Tutoring Tops $14 Billion in 2008. Is it harmful or beneficial for students to be getting this much tutoring?

The article is not surprising any more in Korea. In my opinion, 'Much tutoring' is not good for children as well as their parents. Can you imagine students who can not sleep until midnight? Sadly, it's not unusual even they are in elementary. And all parents are not wealthy enough, but they didn't hesitate to use their money for children. Maybe they will reduce living expenses or get financail problem. They are not happy to hear the news. I'm not happy, either. What are these for? Children's future? Parents' love? Or the failure of public education? I'm still looking for the answer.

I think we need some movement about the tutoring . Although the education should be changed for the better, the parents' mind also should be changed to stop sending their children to cram school competitively at a same time. People can blame that the education and the school are not enough for their children to go to a good university. It makes the tutoring industry bigger and bigger. So someone has to start a movement that go to school without tutoring.

Since I'm the one of the parents in the article inevitably, I'm also worried much. But at the same time, I can understand the parents in Korea. Our society wants more talented people and the youngsters have to study more for surviving in this society. In short, our government and society are making our children living as the slave of studying, I think. Mostly it's the adult's fault.

Whenever I saw this kinds of articles I felt frustrated. As a public school teacher, I have a duty. Traditionally, Korean culture admires who are good in literature and knowledager. I love in that mood too. nowdays the probelms are that the parents don't know what the precious knowledge is. To get a good mark in school and test do not guarentee children's future and happiness. I hope we should know and think again and again what it is the most important thing in life.

I think that is beneficial. The investment of education is the most greatand important thing, and that's Korea's power.
